Summary

I read the first 15 of these books my sophomore year of college， because I still like books about wizards （shout out to Borrow Direct and the entire Ivy League for stocking all of these in their collective collection。） Enjoyed returning to this world， but this entry read as one long prelude to the way more action-packed book 17。

This was not one of my favorite Dresden books。 As usual， there was non-stop action。 But I felt it was disjointed and it had been so long since I read the last one， I did not feel caught up with all the latest in the Dresden wizard and supernatural world。 There were not enough updates for me to remember everything; and I did not feel like going back and re-reading the last book。 But it left off on a bit of a cliff-hanger and I have already purchased the next book， so I will be reading it。

3 Meh Stars ⭐⭐⭐ Ohhh this is what we get after 5 yrs？ This slow as molasses plot that just barely kept my attention。 Random jumps in action like signal flares？？ A whiny Dresden who is still moaning about the boarding house going up in flames？ That was Changes， like 4 books ago！ Not much about the fact that Bob is living with Butters now。。。Dresden broke his back in said fire too。 Just falling back in every chapter about how he misses his home。。。blahThere was a fun chapter where Dresden FINALLY g 3 Meh Stars ⭐⭐⭐ Ohhh this is what we get after 5 yrs？ This slow as molasses plot that just barely kept my attention。 Random jumps in action like signal flares？？ A whiny Dresden who is still moaning about the boarding house going up in flames？ That was Changes， like 4 books ago！ Not much about the fact that Bob is living with Butters now。。。Dresden broke his back in said fire too。 Just falling back in every chapter about how he misses his home。。。blahThere was a fun chapter where Dresden FINALLY gets with Karen。。。only to be interrupted。。by Police IA。 Then the story starts working at what is considered a good place。 Harry is in the cross hairs again with enemies coming at every angle。 Police are leaning on Karen， Thomas does something confusingly stupid， Justine needs protection， McCoy is breathing down Harry's neck to cut Thomas loose。 There were at least 4 references to McCoy not knowing about Thomas being his grandson too。 Yes， thanks ！ I picked up on the foreshadowing。。but tedious already！ Plus， McCoy & Dresden were always at odds in this book。 Every time your turned around McCoy was popping up like a molding mushroom。 Yes， you can only grow as much as a person will allow & no， McCoy was strangling this situation due to his own grievances。 Could that have been worked out better？ Sure！ Probably needed to be done 5 books ago but still。Mab is fallible。。she has shown weakness to the accorded nations thanks to Ethniu。 Her next moves will probably but bite Harry in uncomfortable places。How is the paranoid guy？？？？ I have no idea which field this toadstool popped？ 。。。more

would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this bookjim butcher is back with our winter knight harry dresdenso if you like reading about monsters and vampires and things that go bump in the night then this is the book for you， there are a confusing amount of characters but its ok you only need to keep up with harry and what hes doing。。。things are looking good for chicago and its ends on a cliff hanger， lets hope its not years before we get the next in this series

I'm just wild about Harry。。。 which suckered me into reading this book even after panning the last one。 Sadly， this book is just as bad。 It starts right in the middle of the current plot（s） （I pity the fool who hasn't been following the plots in the last zillion of these books）， and （as is frequently true） Everyone Is After Harry。。。。 （is that the title of the next dog in this series？）。 Add multiple confusing subplots to that main theme， including the usual impossible problem that Harry manages to I'm just wild about Harry。。。 which suckered me into reading this book even after panning the last one。 Sadly， this book is just as bad。 It starts right in the middle of the current plot（s） （I pity the fool who hasn't been following the plots in the last zillion of these books）， and （as is frequently true） Everyone Is After Harry。。。。 （is that the title of the next dog in this series？）。 Add multiple confusing subplots to that main theme， including the usual impossible problem that Harry manages to fix， and ending on a cliff=hanger with not one， but TWO impossibly powerful monsters threatening Chicago and the rest of the known universe。 I guess there are still dollars to be made in this series， but I continue to insist that Butcher is trying to get rid of the readers so his publisher doesn't want the next book。 Sigh， unlikely！ I won't be running out to read that next book， though I will probably be suckered into reading it at some point。 。。。more
